Dr Lukito is proficient in dealing with the following cancerous blood conditions: Myeloproliferative disorders, such as polycythaemia, essential thrombocytosis, and CML (chronic myeloid leukaemia). Chronic leukaemias, including CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukaemia). Multiple myeloma, Lymphoma, Myelodysplastic syndrome.
Deep or superficial vein thrombosis (blood clot) is a common problem. It can progress to a more significant manifestation of lung clot (pulmonary embolus) if not managed appropriately. Treatment options for blood clot includes blood-thinning medications, such as warfarin or the newer agents including Xarelto and Eliquis.
Anaemia (low blood count), neutropaenia (low white blood cell/neutrophil count), thrombocytopaenia (low platelet count), Iron deficiency, Immune-mediated thrombocytopaenia (ITP), Bleeding disorders, Thalassaemias, Haemochromatosis, and other blood and bone marrow disorders.
Pohan completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2007. He then underwent his basic physician training at the Austin and Northern Hospitals, and his clinical and laboratory haematology training at Alfred Health, Monash Medical Centre, and the Northern Hospital. He has a broad experience in managing patients with malignant and non-malignant haematology; including acute and chronic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and lymphoma. Having been trained at the major tertiary haematology centres, he is also proficient in caring for patients with blood clot and bleeding disorders.
As a haematologist, Pohan believes in holistic approach to his patients’ care. He strives to provide the best evidence-based management plans. He attends national and international haematology meetings to get the most recent updates in his field of interests. Pohan has also presented in local haematology meetings as well as national haematology conferences in Australia.
Pohan is married, and in his spare time he enjoys watching movies and exploring different culinary experiences.
